The West Concourse

The second floor of the World Trade Center (WTC) West Concourse opened on Nov. 3, granting entry into a space that had been blocked for more than a year due to construction of One WTC, which opened on the same day. When the West Concourse—which provides an underground path beneath the West Side Highway from the PATH Station to the Brookfield Place Pavilion and ferry terminal—opened on Oct. 23, 2013, the escalators were still out of service, prohibiting access to the second floor.

Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, FAIA, designed the entire WTC Transportation Hub, which has been wrapped in controversy for doubling its initial budget to a total of $4 billion and running six years behind schedule.

The WTC Transportation Hub is expected to fully open in December 2015.
