Project Description
The Rubin Institute houses the International Center for Limb Lengthening and the Center for Joint Preservation and Reconstruction, specializing in the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with congenital, developmental and post-traumatic limb deformities and limb length discrepancies.
Architecturally, the challenge of the project was to weave a distinctly modern building into Sinai Hospital’s existing campus fabric. The scheduled opening date of the new facility presented an additional challenge, making “Fast Tracking” of the design through construction phases necessary.
The Rubin Institute functions as a mini-hospital on the campus with its own main entry and image. The program includes four new OR’s dedicated to orthopedics, inpatient rooms, outpatient facilities including PT and doctors offices.
The Fast Tracking was achieved by issuing separate construction documents for the building’s structure, infrastructure and exterior envelope, and for the new and renovated interiors.
