The American Institute of Steel Construction has announced that Paul Makovsky, ARCHITECT’s editor-in-chief, will join the jury for the organization’s 2024 Forge Prize. Created in 2018, the annual award “recognizes visionary emerging architects, architecture educators, and graduate students for design concepts that embrace innovations in steel as a primary structural component,” according to the AISC.
“The Forge Prize is a great way to recognize the next generation of emerging architects, architecture educators, and graduate students,“ Makovsky says. “It also gives inspiration to those who work in architecture and the steel industry to see the potential of how we all can design a better world to live, work, and build in.”
The competition—which will also be judged by Reed Kroloff, dean of the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology, and Corgan architect Samantha Flores, AIA—invites U.S.-based individuals and teams to submit their designs by Nov. 30. Thee finalists will receive $5,000, as well as an opportunity to hone their ideas with a steel fabricator before ultimately presenting them to a jury of architects. The winner will be awarded $10,000 and share their concept at NASCC: The Steel Conference, which will take place March 20–22, 2024 in San Antonio.
