Chinese architect and CEO of Shanghai-based K. F. Stone Design International Inc. Canada Peter Guo-hua Fu, has donated $12 million to the McGill University School of Architecture, which will permanently be renamed to the Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture in the acknowledgment of his gift.
“Thank you to Peter Fu for this extraordinary gift,” said McGill’s principal and vice-chancellor Suzanne Fortier in a university press release. “His vision and generosity will support the full range of architecture education at McGill, creating new learning and researching opportunities that will position the school and its students for a vibrant future.”
Fu, an alumnus of the school, will make the donation over the course of six years, which will back four main areas, including the creation of various scholarships; establishment of chairs and professorships; promotion of collaborative research studies; and enhancement of the school’s outreach programs.
“I am delighted to be able to contribute to the excellence of architecture education at McGill,” said Fu in the same release. “In this, the 150th anniversary year of Canada, I am proud to express my deep appreciation and gratitude through this gift, which will provide more students in Canada and China with the opportunity to acquire an exceptional education in architecture and engage in new learning opportunities.”
According to McGill, Fu has shaped 54 million square feet of Shanghai’s urban landscape, including the city’s Da’An Garden and the Dongjing International Office Complex.
