A new mixed-use development by Heatherwick Studio is under construction in a residential area adjacent to Shanghai’s 50 Moganshan Road (or M50) arts district. The project, called 1000 Trees, spans over 15 acres of land and is divided into two sections by a narrow strip of government property. Nearly 1,000 exposed, structural columns provide both support and character-defining aesthetics for the residential project. According to the studio’s press release, permission has been granted to build two shopping malls on the site.

Newly released drone footage by the studio shows the progress of construction onsite.
