Terrance “Terry” Sargent, AIA, a founding principal of the Atlanta-based architecture and design firm Lord Aeck Sargent died on Nov. 3 at age 66. A practicing architect for over four decades, Sargent founded Lord & Sargent in 1983, which then merged with Aeck Associates in 1989 to form what is now Lord Aeck Sargent. He practiced out of the Ann Arbor, Mich., office, which he opened in 2001.
Sargent received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the AIA Huron Valley chapter in 2013 for his expertise that helped his firm win two National AIA Honor Awards, three P/A Awards, and more than 30 regional and local AIA Design Awards. He also served as a president and a member of the board of sponsors of the Architecture Society of Atlanta.
Some of Sargent’s projects include the renovation of the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Mich.; Georgia Public Health Laboratory in Decatur, Ga.; the Fuller E. Callaway Manufacturing Research Center on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus in Atlanta; and the Mount Carmel Elementary School in Atlanta. Other notable firm projects include the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Museum of Art in Savannah, Ga., and a master plan for the Atlanta Belt Line.
A student scholarship will be set up in Sargent’s name at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning, his alma mater.
