The United States economy added 241,000 private-sector jobs in December, according to a report released today by payroll company ADP and Moody’s Analytics. That’s the third-strongest month of growth overall for 2014, and 14,000 more jobs than what was added in November. (November’s growth was revised up from the initially reported 208,000 jobs added.)
The construction industry added 23,000 jobs in December, up from 20,000 jobs in November and the third-best month in 2014 for the industry. Manufacturing added 26,000 jobs in December, an uptick from November’s more modest 16,000 jobs added and October’s 15,000 jobs added. December’s manufacturing growth was the second-strongest growth in 2014, after September’s 32,000 jobs added.
Professional and business services, which likely includes architects and engineers, added 69,000 jobs in December—the second-strongest month for the sector in 2014.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its monthly employment report on Friday, which provides more detailed information on growth in the construction and architecture industries.
