Most states require commercial construction projects to meet some standard for a baseline energy performance. Two of those baselines that are commonly referenced are ASHRAE 90.1: Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings and the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). But beyond the acronyms, what do architects need to know and understand about these standards, and how they relate to one another?
