Project Description
The client wanted a custom home that respected the site and took advantage of modern and green building techniques. Consequently, the Briarwood residence uses locally found materials and strong modern lines to create a home that is at once unique and relevant to its surroundings. The flooring and the ceiling are clad in a local, mesquite wood to warm the home and limestone is used throughout the project as a nod to the iconic Texas ranch home while still keeping clean lines intact.
To take advantage of the site, the eastern-facing house has solar panels installed on the roof to capture maximum sunlight while the metal-clad stair tower fills the living areas with light through the large, corner windows, all without sacrificing privacy. A rainwater collection tank helps supply water for landscaping. To lower the impact of the intense sun, overhangs are used on strategic openings. The Briarwood residence breathes life into the classic Texas ranch home with modern lines and green sustainability practices.
