Project Description
The House of Confluence was formed based on the eclectic array of objects within the surrounding site and an interconnection with the river. The house rotates around the center of confluence, the silo, and extends to two axial views to the north and south creating a panorama of the river. The evolution of the house form is routed in the logging history of the river. Four modules, or ‘logs’, flow together and rotate around the center of confluence both horizontally and vertically. The overlapping of these modules formed all of the living and services spaces of the home. As spaces broke the modules, they are articulated as glass volumes that follow the extruded form of the module they extend from. These spaces are given hierarchy in the home based on the use of space and view. Materiality consists of board formed concrete, galvanized metal panels, glass and reclaimed ‘mushroom’ wood.
