Project Description

Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist

The goal of this project was to develop a prototype for a new line of homes that would be distinguished by their design, the efficiency of their production, and the comprehensiveness of their environmental program. The result was this, the first LivingHome. It was designed by Ray Kappe, FAIA, and it was constructed in 8.5 hours. It was the first home ever to be certified LEED Platinum. The production schedule, cost, construction waste and neighborhood disruption were reduced considerably thanks to prefabrication. The building was constructed with energy, water and resource efficient materials as well as with materials and systems that reduced indoor air pollution. It was the first home in Los Angeles County to have a permitted grey water system. Based on the success of this home, LivingHomes has completed many other LivingHomes with architects including Ray Kappe and KieranTimberlake and twelve have been certified LEED Platinum.
