Project Description

Ford Motor Company’s Government and Community Relations team in Washington, DC helps shape policy and legislation in support of the company’s core business objectives and works with community partners to advance education, community life and driving safety. Ford’s Government Affairs 18,000-SF office, designed by Wingate Hughes Architects, reflects the company’s history, future, and brand pillars: electrification, autonomy and mobility, while also providing stylish event, ample meeting, and smart work space.

Upon entry, a Ford-blue feature wall combines the iconic branding of both Ford Motor Company and Lincoln Motor Company. The custom feature wall showcases a floating, lacquered aluminum Ford logo anchored by a satin-finished, interlocked Lincoln mesh grid. The polished aluminum behind the logo creates drama and attention.

The reception space forgoes traditional seating with a custom alcove bench reminiscent of Ford’s 1950s-era automobiles. The bench’s throwback, continuous-curved banquette features veneer paneling and leather seating featuring automotive stitching details.

The multi-use “Innovation Space” provides ample sophisticated event, meeting, and work space displaying Ford’s drive towards the future with a radial ceiling stretching 360 degrees across a large, floating conference room. The ceiling visually enlarges the reception, conference and events area. Expansive views filter through at specific points of the design layout. On both sides of the floating conference room, the multimedia walls with dashboard-inspired cove lighting create interactive zones and a flexible area to display artifacts.

The bronze-framed storefront glass system for the private offices evokes the industrial roots of the automotive industry and expands the breadth of the private and open office spaces. Nods to Ford and Lincoln’s heritage are seen throughout, including the lounge and restroom wall coverings and graphics.
