Project Description
Quennell Rothschild & Partners worked at the historic, 478-acre Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY for over ten years. The firm completed a number of projects including the Hillside Mausoleum, Tranquility Garden Columbarium, Irish Memorial, and Meadow Avenue.
QRP collaborated with Pressley Associates to complete the first cultural landscape report for the historic cemetery, compiling archival materials of several libraries, private and museum collections, aerial photographs, and the cemetery’s collection of original maps, stereoviews, and ephemera from the last 150 years. The report was used to secure National Historic Landmark Status in 2006.
QRP’s master plan located all remaining development opportunities and proposed ways to continue operation of the largely built-out cemetery. Several projects described in the master plan were developed, including a community hillside mausoleum and Locust Grove; the last 1.5-acre parcel for burials and 500 garden crypts with Dattner Architects, and the crematorium expansion with architects Platt Byard Dovell White.
