Project Description
Runa’s renovation of the Hays Community YMCA in Buda, Texas had two components: reimagining the existing 34,000 square foot interior and creating space for new program elements through a 13,000 square foot addition that included a gymnasium and 2 multipurpose rooms. The design concept was integrated by contrast. Runa created a unified campus by fashioning the structures into stark white and linear volumes that deliberately contrast with the existing facility’s ornamental, curved facade. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls open up the spaces to reveal their inner activity while also connecting them visually to the recreational spaces outside. The interior renovation resulted in a much more efficient building flow, optimizing existing areas that were underutilized and creating a new child-watch area, break room and main lobby. Wall graphics and textures inspire movement and activity. Motivational messages compliment the effect.
