Project Description

What happens when the kitchen or dining room becomes your home office? It then becomes very difficult to use those spaces to cook and dine. Furthermore, it requires other members of the household to remain mute during working hours since the kitchen/dining space is central to life at home.

This was precisely the challenge when one family approached MARK IV Builders to construct an addition that would serve as a study. The challenge was to create a space that was quiet and secluded, yet not too cut off from the family. The solution was an octogonal addition linked to the main house via a short corridor.

Architect Don Savage designed the 8-sided structure and the MARK IV Builders team expertly constructed it. It was a build that required experience and precision. With so many angles, one incorrect measurement or cut would throw the entire structure off. It was also challenging to maintain ambient temperature in a room with so much outer wall exposure.

The resulting home addition was exactly what the family envisioned. It is a beautiful space with a sweeping view of the wooded landscape, perfect for working from home, but still only a few steps away from the main house.

Mark Scott and his team also remodeled the family room, relocated the laundry room to the second floor, and expanded the deck.
