Project Description

This building is located on a very narrow lot overlooking Bosphorus. The design problem was to provide views as much as possible from different levels and to have an easy reach to backyard from the stepped front street. The four floors and a loft within the top floor accommodate living, sleeping and study spaces. To connect the street to the backyard at the entry level, all spaces required by the program – living area, fireplace, kitchen, eating – are tucked to one side of the entry door and yard door axis. The depth of living space is emphasized by the exposed plaster wall, detailing of reveals and the lighting track. Exposed plastered surfaces are utilized on all ceilings, on bathroom walls, on fireplace chimney wall and on stair risers. The cathedral ceiling of the top level allowed the insertion of a sleeping / storage loft above the bathroom and stairwell.
