Project Description

With a newly finished patio backing up to water, these clients wanted to extend that space by finishing a large portion of their basement. They entertain frequently and needed more space for their friends and family. We collaborated with them to create this finished basement area including a full bathroom, large wet bar, and media area. We were able to utilize some of the other spaces for small gathering areas such by the fireplace and window bench alcove. The wet bar is the main feature of this space and changed drastically from the original design. We incorporated various wood materials for a modern rustic look. The custom cabinets are stained maple in a darker charcoal finish to contrast with the lighter walls and flooring. Instead of traditional closed wall cabinets, the clients wanted guests to feel free to help themselves so we created wall shelving units with live edge reclaimed shelves and black metal piping. To continue the bar feel, we used Silver Pearl granite in a suede finish. The custom seated bar top is made of knotty alder and includes pockets for drip mats. The kegerator and wine cubes complete the ultimate home bar. For the entire back wall of the bar and alcove bench surround, we installed reclaimed wood planking for some texture to play to the overall rustic atmosphere. The LVT flooring also has grainy look, but is easy to clean for any bar spills and foot traffic from the patio. The engineered stacked stone accent wall for the fireplace adds another layer of texture and is a cozy spot for a drink. The dark trim color pops against the light gray walls and works well in this space as opposed to a fresh white trim color. There were a couple challenges along the way. About halfway through the project, the Project Manager moved on to another opportunity so a new one had to step in to lead the completion. There were also alterations needed to the wood bar top to ensure more walking space by the window. The homeowners ended up preferring the altered layout as it looked even more custom. In the end, the clients were thrilled with their completed basement and use it constantly. We took their bare basement and turned it into the ultimate hangout spot.
