Project Description

This small, 342 sq. ft. kitchen had a much-needed renovation to take the space from dark and dingy to light, cozy, and inviting. The clients wanted to optimize the seating and upgrade their appliances while keeping everything well under $100,000. This required minimal structural changes, emphasizing the finishes and cabinet layout to make a purposeful, aesthetic impact. A balance of both copper and stainless steel were used in the appliances to create a warm and sophisticated space with plenty of character. The flooring was also refinished in the adjacent spaces for a cohesive design on the main floor. The clients were blessed with tall ceilings that provided the perfect opportunity for additional storage and display space. To accentuate the height, while keeping everything cozy and inviting, we chose transom-style cabinetry to break the cabinets up for more dimension rather than a minimalist look. There were a handful of challenges throughout the design and construction process. The biggest challenge was getting all of the custom appliances delivered on time. The small island needed to accommodate a warming drawer and microwave along with additional storage and seating. The island couldn’t get much larger to allow their existing kitchen table to stay in place with enough circulation to the backyard. Additionally, the range hood was a custom piece, and the panel above the refrigerator is temporary to accommodate a larger fridge in the future.
