Project Description
The offshore park designed by London-based Heatherwick Studio would replace the currently dilapidated Pier 54 park in Manhattan’s lower west side. The construction, which is currently estimated at $130 million, will start in 2016 and be primarily funded by billionaire Barry Diller, working with the Hudson River Park Trust to develop the site.
In an effort to promote community events, music, dance, theater, and art, the space will include public stages between lawns and pathways along the pier. Matthews Nielsen will carry out the landscape architecture, focusing on creating separate settings with different topographies within the 2.4 acre site.
