Project Description
Located on a 700 acre ranch Southwest of Boerne Texas, this new modern “barndominium” was originally planned only to be the barn for the necessary ranch equipment and to store the family motor home. The Program expanded quickly into adding a family living quarters to allow for the Owners and visiting extended family to engage the beautiful Hill Country setting. The site was located to on a bluff overlooking the ranches deep canyons. Since an existing motor home’s size drove the initial program for building height and size, a metal building design was selected. Quickly expanded to allow for the Owners private car collection, the larger barn and new living quarters was separated two building forms to help break down scale. To tie the building to the sites natural vistas, a landscape sympathetic weathered steel siding with a naturally developing patina was selected. After working out the height requirement for the barn, the similar scaled living quarters with a 3 bedroom/2bath first floor with compact open living spaces with additional sleeping spaces on the second floor with an interconnected timber framed bridge on the second floor overlooking the living spaces. Picking up on the panoramic mile long views, the Living quarters engages the southwest sun and site with deep covered porches for year round use.
