Project Description
Rhythm Pharmaceuticals is a Boston-based, biopharmaceutical company focused on developing drugs for the treatment of rare genetic obesity disorders. After experiencing rapid and significant growth catalyzed by the success of a new, breakthrough drug, Charles Rose Architects assisted Rhythm in selecting a new downtown location to accommodate both their immediate and future growth plans. The design of Rhythm’s new headquarters offers unobstructed sightlines to the Boylston Street skyline and Trinity Church, while also meeting their budget-conscious desires for an open, flexible, collaborative, and vibrant office environment.
The major design challenge of this gut renovation was to achieve a flexible workplace that would allow for continued growth. Planning strategies called for a balance between private offices and an open plan with modular workstations. Private offices featuring glass fronts for transparency were located along the interior walls, creating large open areas for workstations, and allowing natural light to penetrate deep within. Modular workstations and lounge areas support the clients’ collaborative culture, and an open kitchen serves as the nexus of the office; a social hub, collaboration zone and informal gathering space for touchdown meetings. The design features painted murals that were a cost-effective way to create an identity for the office, while also tying together the interior of warm yellow and shades of blue and gray. Interior finishes feature reclaimed wood, stainless steel, glass and Italian porcelain. Furniture also played an important role in the color palette, adding pops of green, orange, yellow, and light blue.
