Project Description
The Richard J. Daley Library addition at the University of Illinois at Chicago aims to inspire and engage the 21st century, urban student in an age where the role of libraries is changing.
The proposed design transforms the existing 1960s facility, moving beyond a building that stores books to becoming an incubator of knowledge and culture in the city of Chicago. The proposed addition will incorporate social collaboration with a 200-seat auditorium and amphitheater-like forum to engage the community; bring unique elements to the forefront with exhibit spaces for collections and archives that define the unique strengths of the library, distinguishing it from peer institutions; and put greater emphasis on the student with the latest learning technology and student activity areas, including lounges, training rooms and seminar rooms.
