Project Description
Recently opened in September of 2016, the Rough Rider Events Center is North Dakota’s largest community-owned sports facility under one roof.
JLG Architects worked with the City of Watford City to develop the design for their pioneering Events Center. The glass enclosed Commons provide a gateway to the community and the connection between the facility activities. The Events Center provides facilities for community recreation, theatre and concerts as well as a multitude of convention center resources.
Recreation facilities include two ice sheets for hockey, a multi-purpose fieldhouse for basketball, volleyball and baseball with indoor turf for off season practice. The gymnastics club is now located in the building providing opportunities for growth within the community. The swimming pool area includes a leisure pool with slide, offering year round water recreation; a six (6) lane competition pool allows for planned growth. Support facilities for the swimming pool area include a party room, family locker rooms and standard locker room facilities. The main arena provides seating for up to 3,200 spectators depending on the event and can be modified for theatre and concert events up to 3,000. The convention hall allows for a variety of meeting activities, providing spaces for meetings from 25 to 450 people as well as catering and service functions. Watford City is a community on the rise, the new Events Center provides opportunities to meet the demands of citizens in the expanding Western ND environment.
