Project Description
Skyline Aquatic Center was recently voted Best Public Pool by the East Valley Tribune! Open since 2011, Skyline Aquatic Center at Skyline High School provides year-round swimming competition and recreational venues for school events and the community at large with two pools. The recreational pool consists of a beach entry with large water slide, play accessories and attached warm up pool for competition events. The competition diving pool is configured for both 50 meter racing lanes and 25 yard mixed course lanes. Outdoor tiered bleachers offer seating for 1200 people and are protected from the Arizona sun with built-in shade canopies. The pool functions are supported by two adjacent one story buildings housing a bathhouse, lifeguard facilities, classroom and office space. While these buildings were required to be highly efficient and functional, the building forms are playful, drawing their inspiration from a modified wave effect that mimics water in building profile and layering of materials. The final design harmonizes with the existing school campus rather than merely duplicating the existing school buildings.
