Project Description
The mountain retreat is about enhancing connection, not disconnecting. This vacation home was designed around the idea that a place can deepen the connections between two families, and between those families and the landscape they love. This residence serves as a vacation retreat for a brother and sister and their respective families. Using the strict constraints of the site as an advantage, the home frames powerful views on two principal façades, maximizing the visual connection to the landscape at every angle. Strategic decisions in frame and form allowed for efficiencies and functional benefits, including a triangular steep frame with car decking to minimize costs through prefabrication, and a roof slope to move water and snow away from the building. Finishes and interior relationships were carefully crafted in an effort to bring the scenic landscape inward, making it an extension of the living experience. A split level design allows for the living room, fireplace, bar and lounge to feel like intimate spaces with a communal energy. Compact and efficient suites open up to expansive outdoor views. An open terraced theater maximizes space surrounding the stairwell. Exterior spaces open interior activity up into the outdoors- this includes a triangular spa with panoramic views, an elevated deck and an expansive outdoor terrace right off of the kitchen. The Owl Creek residence provides a platform on which two families can interact with one another and their surroundings with purpose, deepening connections and enriching life.
