Project Description

The Hotel at Midtown is a two-story, 55-room hotel located outside of the Chicago Loop, positioned atop of the newly revamped Midtown Athletic Club. The design intent was to transform Midtown from the premier indoor tennis club to the largest lifestyle center in the U.S. complete with a hotel, creating the ultimate destination for active travelers. With the program revolving around the urban oasis-inspired second floor lounge, the property is divided into state-of-the-art fitness and lifestyle spaces and an elevated two-story hotel, resembling a glass volume.

The hotel, a clean reflective glass dimension only punctured by its vertical communication, is perched above the club. Spanning the fourth and fifth floors of the hybrid facility, the hotel boasts panoramic skyline views of the city. Its location provides a unique perspective of Chicago and Lake Michigan, and acts as an acoustical barrier to the club’s main outdoor spaces from a nearby highway. With glass covering its entire exterior, it appears as a floating volume on top of the revamped club. Despite the difference in its program and volumetric presence, finishes from the club are brought into the guestrooms to provide a cohesive experience.

The hotel includes 51 guestrooms, three suites, a two-story penthouse, two meeting rooms, a boardroom, and a rooftop event space. Incorporating light stone, sleek wood and soft fabric furnishings, as well as individual murals and floor-to-ceiling windows, the unique design elements and materials in each room contribute to the hotel’s contemporary feel.
