Project Description

Established in the late 1890’s as a streetcar suburb, the Dilworth community (Charlotte, NC) is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The major design objective of The Tremont was thus to blend in with the historic Dilworth community and provide period-correct interior detailing. The end product was authentic, well designed and well executed throughout the interior and exterior.

Perhaps the biggest constraint during the planning process was dealing with the unusual topography of the lot, which has a steep upward slope in the back. We met this challenge by constructing an elevated garage, requiring a number of steps and a retaining wall.

The greatest opportunity, on the other hand, was the ability to provide extensive landscaping. Built on a street with nearly all original homes, we worked hard to make the landscaping look as settled as possible. Included in the landscaping plan was 2 Japanese Maples, 25 Azaleas, 17 Boxwoods, 6 Camellias, 1 Dogwood, 27 Gardenias, 10 Hydrangeas, 7 Sky Pencil Holly Plants, 5,250 square feet of sod and much more.
