Project Description

As the retail industry adjusts to the impact of online shopping and consumer demand for a personalized, enhanced shopping experience increases, behemoth Nordstrom brings it all together at Trunk Club, a high-end members-only personal stylist service. Initially offered exclusively online, but now available at dedicated brick and mortar locations in select U.S. cities, the new venues simultaneously support the club’s two distinct functions: an up-scale retail clubhouse for member-clients and an office where stylists engage with online clients.

At the new IA designed Boston Members Club, the customer experience, by-appointment only, begins at the concierge station, designed for entertaining and featuring a 35-ft. well-appointed bar and a video screen. Up-scale residential furniture and lighting in the adjacent client-facing lounge offers the comfort of relaxed luxury and ease.

Both office and retail functions share IA’s open plan design, although furniture and lighting make a clear distinction between the two. Conference rooms and banks of open desks offer flexibility for stylists who work with online clients. As part of the customer experience, guests walk between the bar and a bank of desks to access the dressing rooms and inventory displays.

There are two types of dressing rooms, those for the exclusive use of a particular designer, built off-site by the designer’s team to convey the look and feel of the brand, then installed within the space, and generic dressing rooms provided by Trunk Club. Seating areas outside the fitting rooms share a consistent urban-chic aesthetic, complemented by polished concrete floors, a soft, sophisticated palette, fine finishes, and high open ceilings for an ambiance both intimate and spacious.
