Project Description
We were tasked with designing and building a two-story rear/side independent living addition for our homeowners in McLean.
The site itself presented an engineering challenge as the structure had to be built right to the edge of setbacks. We also had to excavate into a hill to accommodate services, trash cans and a path to the backyard.
Once these challenges were met, we got to work designing the interior. On the first floor the kitchen, dining room, and living room blend together into one large cohesive space. The open-floor plan provides an abundance of sunlight, promotes greater traffic flow and gives the illusion of more space. Oak flooring throughout unifies these common areas. Traditional white cabinetry, grey granite countertops, neutral paint and French doors make the space feel bright and airy.
A full bathroom, complete with walk-in shower and a laundry closet complete the first floor layout.
The second floor contains the master bedroom, guest room/den and a shared full bath complete with bathtub. The floor is accessed by the staircase at the front entrance. The large windows throughout allow for maximum sunlight.
The addition is accessed off the driveway offering independence as well as from the main house promoting security. Both a plus for multi-generational living.
