Dept. of Energy SSL Funding Opportunities

Grants are available for energy-efficient SSL luminaires, products, and systems.

On Nov. 30, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science will announce a funding opportunity for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Through this grant opportunity, the DOE will solicit applications for funding directed toward FY16 Phase I, Release 2 projects. Topics for this funding opportunity were previously announced on Nov. 2, and can be downloaded at: http://science.energy.gov/sbir/funding-opportunities. The topic title is “Buildings,” and the subtopic title is “Energy Efficient Solid-State Lighting Luminaires, Products, and Systems” (see topic 11a, page 42).


A webinar to review the SBIR/STTR programs and the award process as it corresponds to this grant opportunity will be held on Fri. Dec. 4. Webinar registration information will be made available at: http://science.energy.gov/sbir/funding-opportunities.

According to the news release: “Qualified small businesses with strong research capabilities in science or engineering in any of the research areas sought in the announcement are encouraged to apply for the SBIR/STTR funding opportunity. Applicants must submit a letter of intent by Dec. 21, 2015, in order to be eligible to submit a full application by Feb. 9, 2016. Over the past 11 years, under her editorial direction, Architectural Lighting has received a number of prestigious B2B journalism awards. In 2017, Architectural Lighting was a Top Ten Finalist for Magazine of the Year from the American Society of Business Publication Editors' AZBEE Awards. In 2016, Donoff received the Jesse H. Neal Award for her Editor’s Comments in the category of Best Commentary/Blog, and in 2015, AL received a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Media Brand (Overall Editorial Excellence).Prior to her entry into design journalism, Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices including FXFowle where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at Three Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. She is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Me., and she earned her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
