LEDucation, The Designers Lighting Forum of New York’s (DLFNY) annual solid-state lighting (SSL) trade show and conference, was held March 29 – 30 in New York City at the New York Hilton in midtown Manhattan. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, this year’s show saw record crowds—more than 4,200 attendees—and a record number of exhibitors—300-plus companies representing the United States, Canada, and Europe.

The tabletop displays showcased the latest LED luminaires and related lighting products from manufacturers in 41,600 square feet (net) of space, an increase of 3,200 square feet from the 2015 show. Exhibitors and attendees have always applauded the show’s format, noting that it allows attendee and manufacturer a direct form of engagement and conversation in obtaining the latest product information. Over the course of its 10 years, LEDucation has drawn more than 22,000 attendees from across the lighting, architecture, facilities, and design disciplines, and from well outside the New York region.

In addition to the trade show, 30 accredited-seminars, covered a range of topics related to SSL including the basics of LED lighting, healthcare lighting, controls, flicker, codes and compliance, and more. This year’s lineup was the most comprehensive and featured a first-rate group of speakers from across the lighting industry. All presentations will be available to view online via the LEDucation website.

The ever popular “Mission Control,” also returned. The interactive/demo areas allow attendees to test the functionality between different configurations of actual lighting components.

LEDucation is a non-profit event, and proceeds from the show are managed by the DLFNY to support a variety of lighting industry grants and scholarships such as the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education, in addition to contributions to university lighting programs.

Considered a “not-to-miss” event, 70 percent of LEDucation exhibitors have already pre-registered to exhibit in 2017. The DLFNY has confirmed that LEDucation will return to the New York Hilton in midtown Manhattan, and that the show dates will be March 28-29th, 2017.
