Registration Open for DOE SSL Technology R&D Workshop

The next DOE SSL Technology R&D Workshop will take place Nov. 8 – 9 in Portland, Ore.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Solid-state Lighting (SSL) program will hold its annual R&D Workshop November 8 – 9 in Portland, Ore. The workshop seeks to “….examine the latest SSL technology advances and research questions, and provide updates on various DOE early-stage research efforts that will serve as a foundation for future SSL technological developments.”

New this year, the R&D workshop sessions will be a single day program followed by a one-day workshop on SSL technology trends hosted by the Next Generation Lighting Industry Alliance (NGLIA). A pre-workshop tour of the DOE’s Connected Lighting Test Bed, will take place on November 7.

According to the preliminary agenda, Day One sessions will cover a variety of topics including horticultural lighting, light and health, color rendering and TM-30 developments, streetlighting and sky glow, and LED efficacy.

Day Two sessions will examine the “…lessons learned from indoor and outdoor connected lighting installations.” Participating speakers include Kevin Dowling, CEO of Kaarta, Robert Davis, Michael Royer, and Andrea Wilkerson of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Ron Gibbons of Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, Kevin Van Den Wymelenberg of the University of Oregon, and Craig Bernecker of Parsons the New School for Design.

Neal Award for Best Media Brand (Overall Editorial Excellence).Prior to her entry into design journalism, Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices including FXFowle where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at Three Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. She is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Me., and she earned her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
